What are the Alternatives to AA for the Suffering Alcoholic>

Just a few generations ago, there were very few Alternatives to AA for the Alcoholic looking for help and support with getting sober and staying stopped.  The church had some limited success in a number of cases but the best overall chance for most alcoholics and problem drinkers was Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). The problem with AA for a lot of people looking to put the plug in the jug is that there’s more mention of ‘God’ in the rooms of AA than you could ever find in a Bible study group.  It really is extreme and their entire program is based around finding a god to cure you of this crippling condition. As you can imagine, such a program has many alcoholics running for the hills. For them, it seems like they are potentially replacing one screwed up way of life with another!  Thankfully, today’s alcoholics and their families have more balanced and healthier options that involve no ‘gods’ in the recovery process.
