What About Home Schooling?

We have schools setup specifically to educate the kids right!? So why is it that so many parents are taking their children out of conventional schools in order to educate them in the home?  I expect that every parent has their own story but if this trend can be generalized, I would say at a guess that folks are just not happy with the education the kids are getting in regular schools.  And putting the education to one side, there also seems to be a growing concern about the levels of discipline, or lack of it, along with the teen drinking and drugging culture that seems to be getting them younger and younger all the time. But does homeschooling work?
