Michael Cherney’s Russian Squabble
Should an ex Russian multi-billionaire with a very dubious past be allowed to bring a court case in the United Kingdom if neither himself, or the person he wants to sue, live or have companies registered in the UK?
You may have heard about Michael Cherney recently - he’s the person trying to sue Oleg Deripaska - a Russian national who’s also a multi-billionaire.
I don’t think much of Michael’s chances of winning his court case, or even getting it heard in London - the court case should be heard in Russia - but Michael claims he won’t get a fair hearing there as he’s made some powerful enemies in Russia.
Is it right to drag a disinterested country’s legal system into a Russian squabble?
