Reader Question: I can get a cheaper car insurance rate via the internet and some of the lesser know insurance carriers, but should I?

Sure, some of those “lesser known” carriers are really well run companies that have been around a long time and will probably be around for a much longer time. You can also eliminate current covereages in your current policy to help cut your premium costs.

Understand, however, that if you eliminate the coverages, you’ll have to foot the repair bill if you get in an accident that’s your fault, or if the car is totalled or stolen. Understand that many of the big name companies such as Geico and Esurance do not have a network of agents and you are on your own when it comes time to deal with any claims you may have.
