Sport provides a relatively safe venue for converting unbridled competition into harmless competition, because sports competition is restrained. I readily concede that sports competition is a great deal preferable to war. But the essence of sports competition is striving to win, not winning alone. Our success in sports competition is enhanced, we enjoy improved health, and we can look forward to greater success in business and our personal lives. The nature of sports competition is compared to the kind of competition common in the working world.
